What makes P.U.P.P. different? |

PUPP is not just another welfare association! PUPP has initiated a completely new approach to an old problem and is having an enormous amount of success as a result. |
| |
In PUPP's experience, mobile clinics that park and wait for the community to bring their animals are largely unsuccessful because only the caring animal owners are prepared to make the effort. The vast majority of really needy cases continue to suffer, out of sight of the clinic staff.
PUPP has therefore elected not to go this route. Instead, we are PROACTIVE. We go door to door, explaining why the owners need to have their pets sterilized, peering over fences, looking under structures, opening boxes, seeking out animals in need of help, specifically those unfortunate animals whose owners have no intention of taking them to a clinic or any other form of veterinary assistance. Many are starving; many are chained short with no access to shelter or water; many are mangy and worm ridden; almost ALL are neglected and crave attention and affection. We work from our vans and trailers, treating mange, dispensing worm remedies, flea powder, dip, wound medication and advising the people on animal care. We also provide food for undernourished dogs and cats. PUPP's unique proactive approach is far more successful than the mobile clinic system.
It is encouraging to note that severely mange-ridden dogs are now the exception rather than the rule in the areas where we have worked the longest. Now people in the street stop our vans and tell us when there is a mangy dog that needs our help. This is certainly progress.
