PUPP CHARITY SHOP OPENING
The new PUPP charity shop (at 57 Main Road , Bergvliet) was officially opened on 3 December. The shop's staff, members of the PUPP board and guests enjoyed champagne and snacks, and celebrated the beginning of what is already an enormously successful new venture. The shop, which was started up and is run by Norma Hosking, sells a variety of good-quality items, including bric-a-brac, books and clothes. Norma would like to say a special thank you to all those who have contributed such a marvellous array of items, which are continuing to flow in. The first month's trading exceeded all expectations, and we hope that this will continue. Anyone with goods or help to offer can contact Norma on 083 340 3079 or phone PUPP on 715 7525

CAVENDISH BOOK SALE
PUPP’s Annual Cavendish Charity Book Sale from the 27 – 30 July was a great success. Well over 2000 books were on offer and sales exceeded all expectations this year - raising a wonderful R15 000.
We were lucky to have a prime spot, thanks to Beverley Whelehan, whose magical co-ordination of the Cavendish Book Sale brought many charities and book lovers together.
A very early and cold morning start to the first day saw many eager collectors who descended upon the PUPP stall to seize the best buys. Unfortunately, yours truly became overwhelmed with all the attention and tripped over a crate of books. A sharp ripping of material was heard as my pants split from top to bottom. Everyone’s nightmare to be partially naked in the middle of Cavendish Square! (My cheeky husband asked if there were any biddings for my sizeable derrière!)
From day one, the sales were brisk and busy, especially when one of our young and beautiful volunteers was on duty. Many customers congratulated us on having alphabetised and categorised all the books - making their search that much easier.
number of students, assisted by their parents, helped as part of their school’s community outreach programme, and I hope that they will spread the news about PUPP at their respective schools.
Special thanks to Annette Yates and Cheryl Hopkins for their invaluable advice and assistance.
Also, heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who manned the tables: Anthony Seales, Ruth Horton, Karen Key, Ariella Caira, Vicky Wright, Sarah Lowe, Leslie Mildenhall, Jerry Higgs, Milena Cardoso, Vanessa and Peter Cross, Shirley Newton, Gloria Pitlo, Wray Whyte, Catherine Sellier with Greg and Patrick, Charlotte Thomas, Angela O’Connor-Smith, Muffy Malherbe, Cecilia Whittaker, Chagan and Kishan.
To the strong, dedicated men from PUPP – Bruce, Quinton, Willie and Shaun – you’re the best – thanks for all your help.
Many thanks to the generous people that contributed and bought books.

BRIDGE DRIVE IN TOKAI On Friday 25 November PUPP held a bridge afternoon fundraiser at the home of Janette Hubbart in Tokai. Thanks to Maureen van Reenen who assembled all 24 elegant ladies, Pick ‘n Pay and Spar Rosmead who sponsored the refreshments, and Patrick Russell who donated 6 bottles of delectable Steenberg wines: it was resounding success, raising R750 00. Thank you, Janette, so much for hosting the event.
